New Paint: Kitchen and Breakfast Nook

We finished painting the kitchen and breakfast nook this past Sunday. I think they look great. We love the contrast with the white molding, built ins, and cabinets. Here are some photos:

You did a great job painting the kitchen and nook. I'd love to have a nook. When I was a little girl my parents had friends who had a breakfast nook and that's where they always had breakfast and lunch. They used their dining room for dinner. They were such a neat, loving family and for some reason I always felt it was the nook, you know? That sweet, cozy place the four of them sat for breakfast and lunch every day. I was so sure in my young mind that that was the secret to that family's happiness :_) Enjoy your kitchen and your nook !

Thanks Poppy! We spend a little bit of each day in our nook. I see what you mean. We definitely feel lucky to have a nook in our bungalow. I know not every bungalow owner has a cozy nook!

What color did you use on the kitchen walls. Love your house by the way.

I know this might be a nosy question...but could you tell me the dimensions of your nook (tables and benches too) and mudroom? We're trying to restore our 1910 Craftsman, and the room where both used to reside had been demolished before we moved in. So, we're trying to recreate the old room's style, but without any blueprints to help us out. I like the look of yours very much, and would really appreciate any dimensions you're willing to give.

Thanks!

Hello mamasitamaya! I would love to throw measurements your way. Anything to help another bungalow owner and lover out!

Now I'm being nosy...I checked out your blog and we have a lot of very similar interests! "The Business of Being Born" was an incredible movie in my opinion. I already knew I wanted a midwife someday when the time comes for me to have kids, but that movie made me even more confident in that decision.

I wish you much luck with the restoration of your craftsman. Oh, measurements to follow soon...

Thanks! That's awesome of you- can't wait to see if the dimensions fit in my space!

Thank you so much Kaili! (That is your real name, right?) I'll go measure out my space tomorrow, and hopefully it's a pretty close match. This helps more than you could imagine. Check out my blog for some more recent pics of our house project as well.

Kaligirl,

My wife are in the process of buying a craftsman bungalow in Michigan.

There is a nook in the kitchen into which the soon to be former owners shoved a large refrigerator. There is a small window on the back wall. I will send you a photo of it as soon as I can figure out how to attach photos (I have never left a comment on a blog before, but we have a lot of remodeling work ahead of us and I need to establish some helpful links with people for advice and counsel). If I could have your e-mail address it could make things simpler.

The nook is a bit small, perhaps no more than 40 inches in width. Could it have been a nook for a stove, an icebox, or perhaps something else.

Thanks,
--Art M.
